Adelin’s Daddy Daughter Date

Stephen had a work related function to attend. He decided he would take Adelin and make it a daddy daughter date. Ironically, the night before Adelin was expressing to me how sad she was that daddy always take Mason out but never her. I had not told her yet about her upcoming date. After I explained that she would be going to a party with daddy, she was all smiles. The day of the event arrived and it was all she could talk about. Daddy was dashing in his suit and Adelin looked like a princess in her dress. She was beaming ear to ear when they left the house. They did not stay long, but the memory will last for years if not a lifetime.

A friend of mine expressed to me how important it is to spend quality time with our children. She and her husband go on dates with their kids often. It gives them a chance to communicate, which can be pretty tough when siblings are around. Dates are different than running errands together. Dates can be going to the theater, going out to eat, playing together at the park, make something, fishing, taking a walk or going on a bike ride. It is that one on one special time between child and parent. There are no other distractions. No shopping lists. No phone calls.

My friend also stressed to keep any opinions to our self and keep the focus and attention on what our child is saying. Make it a positive experience. It is not the time to reprimand for past mistakes. Have fun and build some great memories and watch your family relationships grow.
