The Great Pumpkin Treat Bags

Last year, I was looking through a Halloween magazine when a picture of a banister with a garland of three fairly large paper bats caught my eye. I did not save the picture and cannot recollect in which magazine it was that I saw the idea. All I have to go on is my vague memory. I do remember the scene reminded me of Christmas Stockings hanging on the banister. The bats could be made with a pocket at the top something like a valentine holder or paper plate treat holder.

A few friends and I were discussing how to get rid of the horde of Halloween candy. Some of the women let their children pick out their favorite pieces of candy, then the witch comes Halloween night to take the rest away and leave a prize of some kind. I was in Wal-mart one day and came across the cutest Halloween underwear and panties for little kids. I thought they would make a great treat exchange.

I decided we are going to have “The Great Pumpkin” come take away the candy and leave them underwear. I would use the inspiration from the bat garland to make treat bags to put the candy in and hang them on the banister. However, when we were going through the Halloween decorations, I discovered the kids did not have trick-or-treat bags. With a few minor changes, their great pumpkin treat bags were transformed into Halloween trick-or-treat bags.
